In the realm of personal finance management, many individuals struggle with the conventional approach of categorizing expenses into rigid, predefined categories. Typically, budgeting applications rely on users to establish these categories and adhere to set monthly limits, often leading to a fragmented view of overall financial health. This method can cause users to focus excessively on individual categories, undermining their broader financial goals.

Pouch introduces a more adaptable and intuitive approach to budgeting. Recognizing that expenditures fluctuate—where one month may see increased grocery spending while another may favor dining out—Pouch prioritizes maintaining an overall budget without the constraints of overspending in specific areas. Each transaction is assigned a tag, enabling categorization into types of expenses such as groceries, mortgage payments, and dining. These tags are aggregated into three primary categories that provide insight into one’s financial situation:

 <li>Fixed: What do I owe?</li>
 <li>Goals: How far can I go?</li>
 <li>Flex: What do I have left?</li>
</ul>

This structure allows users to understand how each transaction impacts their total budget while offering options for deeper analysis through Fixed, Goals, or Flex categories. Pouch successfully balances the need for detailed financial scrutiny with the convenience of a high-level overview, catering to varying user preferences for managing their finances efficiently.
